Anti-littering campaign extended to sea

The family institution plays an important role in educating children to appreciate environmental cleanliness. Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Edward Yong Oui Fah stated this during the official opening of the anti-littering campaign for sea the area in Tanjung Aru on Saturday. He said parents should show good example to their children by throwing rubbish in the right place. Yong also urged the participants of the campaign to create greater public awareness of the importance of keeping the environment clean. “This activity is one good example of co-operation among the various agencies in their efforts to change the people’s mindset. This will also create awareness among the people about the importance of maintaining cleanliness. I hope other agencies will also take part in this kind of activities,” he said. With the participation from all parties, he said the City would be free from rubbish. Seventy participants from City Friends, Rela and City Hall took part in the campaign which involved three activities. They were detaining litterbugs and collecting rubbish in the sea and house-to-house’campaign at Kampung Tanjung Aru Baru and Lama areas. Also present at the campaign were City Hall Director General Datuk Dr Chua Kim Hing and Deputy Director (Operation) Azmi Salim.
