Law violators will face action, warns Masidi

The State Government will not compromise on those who violate the law, Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun warned yesterday. “Laws are not ornaments and action will be taken when the necessity arises,” he told reporters after launching the JCI Penampang’s Keep Moyog River Clean campaign at Kampung Mahandoi yesterday. He stressed that all economic activities that are strictly done by totally ignoring the law will face the consequences. Masidi was commenting on the complaint from villagers in Kampung Purak and Kampung Manggis in Papar against two pig farms located in their area. The villagers appealed to the State Government to take action against the pig farm operators as they had caused pollution and sufferings to the people. According to Masidi, the Government has taken follow-up action following the reports on the detrimental effects resulting from the pig farming activities. The case is now with the State Attorney General for further action and the Government will also be amending certain provisions in its Enactment to ensure that those operating farms will hot violate any laws, he said. He added that reports showed that these pig farm operators had violated the land law and this information was also passed on to the District Office and the Land Office.
