TUESDAY-5 AUGUST 2008- PBS DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE TO MEET ON FRIDAY

PBS Disciplinary Committee to meet on Friday

KOTA KINABALU:

The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Disciplinary Committee will meet on Friday to consider action to be taken against PBS Kiulu Division Chief Sindin Ranggangon for suggesting that it was time for Party President Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan to pass over the leadership to a new leader. PBS Deputy President Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili said Sindin’s outburst was totally against Party interest and procedures. “Pairin enjoys the full support of the PBS supreme council and grassroots leaders to continue leading PBS as President until he so decides to retire from politics. “There is no need for an immediate handover,” he said here. Sindin was recently reported as calling on Pairin to resign as Party President, saying it was time for someone with more energy, calibre and charisma to take over the leadership. He also suggested Dr Maximus as the most appropriate person and contended that he was merely expressing the view of most members in line with the principles of democracy. Dr Maximus said Pairin was a great and smart political leader and he would determine when the leadership transition should take place. “We are sure when that takes place, it will be done smoothly in accordance to the Party’s constitution. PBS is now the oldest Sabah-based Party and it is our aspiration to ensure PBS continues as a key political institution in Sabah. “Hence a smooth and proper leadership transition in the party is crucial when the time comes. We don’t want the history of previous political parties in Sabah and Sarawak to happen to us where the parties disbanded or disintegrated with the expiry of the political career of their Presidents”. - Bernama
