THURSDAY-14 AUGUST 2008- FREEZE ON GOVERNMENT FUNCTIONS AT HOTELS LIFTED

Freeze on Government functions at hotels lifted

KUALA LUMPUR:

The Government has agreed to allow official functions and seminars hosted by the Ministries and Government agencies to be held at hotels. The Finance Ministry announced this through 1reasury Circular No. 4 2008 dated yesterday. The directive, however, is subject to a condition that the expenditure is under control and moderate. According to the circular, the Government is aware of the importance of the hotel industry to national economy and has taken into consideration the concern of hotel operators that the industry will be adversely affected. The previous Treasury Circular dated June 9, 2008 states that the Ministry and Government agencies are not allowed to hold official functions at hotels in a move to save Government expenditure. - Bernama
